When should I fill out the FAFSA?

FAFSA applications become available on January 1st. Some federal aid programs are on a first come, first served basis, so it is best to apply as soon as possible!

How do I fill out the FAFSA?

The fastest and easiest way is to file online at www.fafsa.ed.gov. From there, you can also find instructions on paper filing should you need it.

Additional important information:

  • Before you file (this can be done before January 1st), get your PIN. This PIN will be used to sign the application so DO NOT lose it or share it with anyone. You may register for your PIN at www.pin.ed.gov.
  • Complete your FAFSA application BEFORE filing your current tax return. You will use last year’s tax information to complete the application. You can also update the tax information online should you find that necessary.
  • Make sure to check the admission and financial aid deadlines for the colleges of your choice.
